San Rafael

San Rafael is the oldest and largest city in the county. It is also one of the most diverse cities in Marin, with people of all cultures and nationalities. You’ll find Victorian buildings, ethnic restaurants, eclectic boutiques as well as the San Rafael City Plaza. The plaza is a lively gathering place and hosts eclectic events like the Thursday night farmers’ markets and summertime concerts. The diversity of its people is also represented by the diversity of its real estate: from condos to million-dollar mansions with swimming pools, there is something for everyone. It is also home to Dominican University and is by far one of the warmest areas in Marin County.

Architect Frank Lloyd Wright designed the very impressive Civic Center which was designated a national historical landmark. Whether you love weekend strolls through one of the country’s largest farmers’ markets or hiking in China Camp, you will find plenty to do in San Rafael.
